Modern living offers us many comforts and luxuries. In the last two decades, our pace of life has been increasing constantly. New gadgets and instruments have been invented which help us work faster and travel to distant places in a short time. Technology has enabled us to do more work in less time and grow materialistically. All the wonderful inventions were originally discovered to enrich our lives with health, happiness and peace. Interestingly, however, the results are totally opposite to such expectations. Modern medicine has invented diagnostic tools and therapeutic formulations that can identify and suppress diseases at the nascent levels, but in spite of these improvements, the number of diseases all over the world is increasing every year. In addition, new diseases are emerging which are not understood well by the advanced medical science.

Thus, it is time we take a deep breath, relax and think about where we are heading. Health is not merely the absence of symptoms or physical discomforts. Ayurveda defines health as a “complete state of balance at the levels of body, mind and spirit.” While modern technology offers us solutions for comforting the body and senses, these “solutions” are actually disturbing the mind and are unfulfilling for the soul. When the mind is disturbed and there is lack of love in our lives, blockages and imbalances are created in physical organs and systems.

Thus, curing our mind is as important as curing our body. The basic disease of the mind is ignorance of the self, which gives rise to identification with one’s body, which further results in raga (attachment) and dvesa (aversion). The human mind basically rotates in the groves of raga and dvesa. All our actions are impelled either by either raga or dvesa. Therefore one has to rise above these dualities, as Sri Krishna teaches in Bhagavad-gita. There are various means for that, such as karma yoga, jnana yoga, astanga yoga, and bhakti yoga. Of all the processes, the path of bhakti is best, because on this path one can receive the grace of Bhagavan, on whom everything rests and depends. On the other paths, there is no such facility.

Babaji and his brother Dr. Chauhan have been teaching both together and on their own in various countries around the world to make the Vedic knowledge system, which Ayurveda is part of, accessible to the modern mind and enrich people’s lives with new insights and experiences. Their last seminar was very successfully help a few weeks ago in Japan about “Detoxification of the mind.”

Eventually he left his job and career in order to pursue his inner quest for truth. After extensive study of the Vedic scripture, Satyanarayana Dasa realized it was essential to establish a proper facility to protect this ancient knowledge, and therefore he founded the Jiva Institute of Vedic Studies to preserve and teach this ancient wisdom.

Jiva Institute’s Online School

Jiva Institute has committed itself to teach various areas of knowledge that will help to establish a peaceful, harmonious society and make the understanding of life complete. One such body of knowledge is Vedic philosophy and literature, which traditionally one studies with strict discipline under a qualified teacher.

Since such facilities are rare these days and not everyone is able to come to India to study in the traditional manner, Jiva Institute is now offering e-courses on a variety of subjects which one can study from the comfort of one’s home at one’s own pace.

At present the following three courses are available:

Sāṅkhya Philosophy

Sāṅkhya is the oldest of the six traditional Indian systems of philosophy and has influenced every other school of Indian thought. Since Sāṅkhya forms the metaphysical and ontological foundation of both Yoga and Āyurveda, a thorough understanding of its principles is essential to fully be able to practice these more popular disciplines. Sāṅkhya explains the evolution of matter and the three levels of material energy in the human body and universe at large. It is rooted in the principle of cause and effect and clarifies the reason for human suffering and the ability to transcend it. Sāṅkhya teaches us how to remain peaceful and stress free while functioning in daily modern life.

Vedic Metaphysics

The term “Metaphysics” refers to a branch of philosophy which attempts to describe the true nature of all realities. Metaphysics is beyond empirical science. It is the study of being and knowing, related to a universal law, to spirit and to social and physical science.

Sacred Texts such as the Vedas, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and Bhagavad Gītā describe the true underlying nature of everything. Vedic Metaphysics approaches this nature of reality from the Vedic perspective. It is the ultimate tool to explore the meaning of life, death, birth and rebirth, the soul, karma, pleasure and pain, the universe, time, the purpose of life, dharma and the creator, God.

Vaiṣṇava philosophy

Among the six tradition schools of Hindu philosophy and theology, Vedānta is considered the highest and most advanced school of thought. In Vedānta there are two major divisions, called personalism and impersonalism. The personalism school accepts Viṣṇu as the prime God and is thus called Vaishnavism.

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu

It is the most popular theology practiced in India and includes the most famous Indian scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gītā, Rāmāyaṇa, Mahābhārata, Bhagavata Purāṇa, and Upaniṣads. Many of the most prominent Indian teachers and sages over the past 1000 years were Vaiṣṇava including Rāmānujācārya, Madhvācārya, Nimbārkācārya, Vallabhācārya and Caitanya Mahāprabhu. This course gives an overview of the various schools of Vaishnavism and their respective teachings. It explains the nature of the Absolute Reality and its intrinsic oneness and difference with the world and human beings.

Please find more details on all the courses here: jivainstitute.com

Jiva e-courses are free of cost. Anyone can create an account and start learning by self-study. However, to take the examination and get a certificate if one is qualified, a fee of 60 US$ is required.

New courses such as Vedic Psychology, Vaiṣṇava Tantra, Vedic Ufology and many others which enrich the present spectrum will be offered every few months.

“Art of Love” at Jiva Institute

From March 10th to 17th Babaji Satyanarayana Dasa will teach the seminar “ART OF LOVE” at Jiva Institute in Vrindavan.

Everyone is looking for happiness. Some seek it in food, some in sports, some in wealth, and some in sex. But real happiness is found only in love. Unfortunately, most people don’t know what love is, so it keeps slipping through their fingers. If a business venture fails, the entrepreneur hires a consultant to examine the reasons for the failure. But when we fail in love, we never think to learn the basics. We assume we already know what love is and how to get it. That misconception leads to more failure and frustration.

This course teaches the alpha and omega of pure love, the qualification required to attain it, and the process to get it so that one’s life can be filled with bliss.  Although everyone is eligible for love, and love is the ultimate goal of life, we still need certain qualifications to be successful on the path of love.  If we are serious about love, just as in any pursuit, we better know what it takes to attain it. But we never think to learn the basics of love – we assume we know what love is and how to get it.  This is the biggest misconception and cause of our failure.  This seminar is unique in teaching the fundamental concept of love.  If we realize the principles taught in this course, we will feel fulfilment in our life.
